About SMF

Sudan Media Forum is a coalition of independent media organizations and journalists in Sudan. Dedicated to fostering a robust and independent media landscape, the Forum works tirelessly to advance press freedom, promote ethical journalism, and cultivate informed citizenship within a just and democratic society.

Established on February 18th, 2024, the Forum officially commenced its activities in April of that year with the launch of the “Stand With Sudan” campaign and the Joint Newsroom. The latter serves as a hub for collaborative reporting and the simultaneous dissemination of news across various media platforms.

Registered as a non-profit organization in the Netherlands in December 2024, the Forum is governed by a seven-member board of directors, all committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism. The board focuses on:

  • Championing Press Freedom: The Forum actively defends freedom of the press, safeguards the right to freedom of expression, and advocates for unimpeded access to information.
