Article 1 : Definitions
- The Forum: The Sudan Media Forum.
- Member: Any independent Sudanese media organization (newspaper, magazine, website, television channel, radio station) that agrees to these regulations and is bound by its provisions.
Article 2: Objectives of the Forum
The Forum aims to:
- Promote Freedom of the Press and Expression in Sudan.
- Defend Freedom of the Press and the right to access information.
- Encourage Cooperation Among Media Organizations in Sudan, by establishing an independent and cooperative national newsroom, and by strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations.
- Gather, Verify, and Present Information to local and international audiences, clearly, objectively, and without bias.
- Combat False News and Misinformation and hate speech.
- Enhance Professionalism in Media and develop the skills of Sudanese journalists.
- Develop a Roadmap for Independent Media in Sudan, by creating a long-term vision and a comprehensive master plan for an independent and diverse media system that serves social accountability and the public interest in a peaceful and democratic Sudan.
- Build Regional and International Networks to support media outlets, and cooperate with international organizations and partners to secure resources and expertise for media development initiatives in Sudan.
- Support the Efforts of the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate in defending and protecting the rights of journalists.
Article 3: Membership Requirements
- The media organization must be Sudanese, independent, and legally registered/licensed.
- The organization must agree to these regulations and be bound by its provisions.
- The organization must have a good reputation and demonstrate clear journalistic and media activity for at least two years
- The organization must pay the annual membership fees determined by the Forum.
Article 4: Duties of Members
- Contribute to the Preparation and Publication of Press Reports: Produced by the Forum, in accordance with the editorial policies of each organization.
- Participate in the Activities and Media Campaigns Organized by the Forum.
- Contribute to the Development of the Forum: By submitting proposals and ideas.
- Adhere to the Code of Journalistic and Media Coverage in times of war and armed conflict, and the Code of Journalistic Ethics adopted by the Forum.
- Adhere to the Principles and Values of Journalistic Work and apply its rules based on accuracy, fairness, independence, reliability, and balance.
- Promote a Culture of Peace and Coexistence.
- Comply with the Charters, Decisions, and Directives of the Forum.
Article 5: Rights of Members
- Benefit from Financial Aid: That the Forum receives from donors, in accordance with the terms and conditions established by the Forum.
- Participate in Training Courses: Organized by the Forum or obtained from donors.
- Access Information and Data: Produced by the Forum
- Participate in General Assembly Meetings: Of the Forum and vote on its decisions.
- Be Eligible to Run for Membership: In the Forum’s Board of Directors.
Article 6: Loss of Membership
Membership of any member shall terminate in the following cases:
- Resignation: By submitting a written resignation from the member organization to the Executive Office.
- Dissolution: Dissolution of the journalistic organization.
- Expulsion: The Board of Directors has the right to expel the membership of any member organization in the following cases:
- Failure to comply with the duties of members stipulated in Article (4) of the Membership Regulations, after sending a written warning to the member inviting them to submit clarifications before the office or in writing and granting them reasonable time to respond.
- Committing a serious breach stipulated in the internal regulations of the forum.
The media organization whose membership has been revoked has the right to appeal to the office, either in person or by submitting a written request.
Article 7: General Provisions
- These regulations shall come into force from the date of their approval by the General Assembly of the Forum.
- The General Assembly has the right to amend these regulations by a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting.
- The Board of Directors of the Forum shall interpret these regulations.
