Sudan Media Forum is progressing with a digital enhancement initiative supporting member organizations to strengthen their websites, hosting infrastructure, security, performance, and long-term digital presence.
For Sudanese media organizations operating through conflict and displacement, maintaining a reliable digital presence has become more than a question of visibility. Websites and digital platforms increasingly serve as essential infrastructure for publishing, preserving content, reaching audiences, and maintaining independent media operations across borders.
Against this background, the Sudan Media Forum has been implementing a Digital Enhancement initiative designed to strengthen both SMF’s digital infrastructure and that of participating member organizations.
The work combines website development and redesign with technical support tailored to the existing infrastructure and needs of individual media organizations.
From Website Development to Digital Resilience
Support provided through the initiative includes website development and improvement, domain and hosting configuration, performance optimization, security enhancement, search-engine optimization and indexing, user-experience improvements, and ongoing technical maintenance.
Because member organizations operate under different circumstances and have different levels of digital readiness, the support is being implemented according to individual technical needs rather than through a single standardized intervention.
Several participating platforms have already completed significant development and enhancement work, while others are progressing through development, technical assessment, or preparation stages.
The initiative has also supported underlying digital infrastructure, recognizing that sustainable websites require more than visual redesign. Hosting stability, security, backups, performance, and technical maintenance are equally important to maintaining reliable publishing platforms.
Supporting a Connected Independent Media Ecosystem
The initiative forms part of SMF’s broader effort to strengthen the resilience of independent Sudanese media and improve the digital infrastructure available to its members.
Beyond individual websites, the work is helping SMF better understand the different technical needs across its membership and develop a more coordinated approach to digital support.
As implementation continues, the Forum will focus on completing ongoing development, supporting participating organizations with technical optimization and maintenance, and strengthening the sustainability and accessibility of their digital platforms.
